چکیده

In a previous paper we proposed a model to study the dynamics of opinion formation in human societies by a coevolution process involving two distinct time scales of fast transaction and slower network evolution dynamics. In the transaction dynamics we take into account short range interactions as discussions between individuals and long range interactions to describe the attitude to the overall mood of society. The latter is handled by a uniformly distributed parameter α, assigned randomly to each individual, as quenched personal bias. The network evolution dynamics is realized by rewiring the societal network due to state variable changes as a result of transaction dynamics. The main consequence of this complex dynamics is that communities emerge in the social network for a range of values in the ratio between time scales. In this paper we focus our attention on the attitude parameter α and its influence on the conformation of opinion and the size of the resulting communities. We present numerical studies and extract interesting features of the model that can be interpreted in terms of social behaviour.

Event-driven modelling of evolving social networks

In many social networks, the connections between actors are formed because they participate in the same event, such as a set of scholars co-authoring a paper or colleagues having a teleconference. Therefore, we propose an event-driven model to capture the growth dynamics of social networks through modelling of the social events. We also investigate the evolution of event formation and the joint...

People Opinion Topic Model: Opinion based User Clustering in Social Networks

Mining various hot discussed topics and corresponding opinions from different groups of people in social media (e.g., Twitter) is very useful. For example, a decision maker in a company wants to know how different groups of people (customers, staff, competitors, etc.) think about their services, facilities, and things happened around. In this paper, we are focusing on the problem of finding opi...

Predicting Opinion Leaders in Word-of-Mouth Communities

Opinion leaders play a major role in shaping potential customers’ minds in word-of-mouth communities. Prior research on opinion leaders in word-of-mouth communities has focused mostly on structural characteristics of social networks of the leaders, ignoring the predictive potential of the actual text that they write. We argue that textual characteristics of reviews, along with reviewer characte...

Dynamics of deceptive interactions in social networks

In this paper, we examine the role of lies in human social relations by implementing some salient characteristics of deceptive interactions into an opinion formation model, so as to describe the dynamical behaviour of a social network more realistically. In this model, we take into account such basic properties of social networks as the dynamics of the intensity of interactions, the influence o...

Balanced clusters and diffusion process in signed networks

In this paper we study the topology effects on diffusion process in signed networks. Considering a simple threshold model for diffusion process, it is extended to signed networks and some appropriate definitions are proposed. This model is a basic model that could be extended and applied in analyzing dynamics of many real phenomena such as opinion forming or innovation diffusion in social netwo...
